SYNW Appoints Nathaniel Okeke as SYNW Coordinator in FUO (Federal University Otuoke)

 

SYNW APPOINTS NATHANIEL OKEKE AS SYNW COORDINATOR IN FUO (FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OTUOKE)


In order to achieve SYNW’s aim of promoting creative writing and book reading among Nigerian students between the ages of 10 and 35 in our various universities, the Society of Young Nigerian Writers has appointed Nathaniel Okeke as Coordinator of the writers’ body in the Federal University Otuoke (FUO)

In a statement made available to pressmen today, Wole Adedoyin, the National President of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) said, Nathaniel Okeke will be responsible for connecting students with SYNW’s resources, organizing monthly readings, workshops, competitions with support from individuals, corporate bodies and the National body, while also supporting them in ways that help promote reading culture in FUO and enhance their literary career.
We look forward to seeing the initiatives that
Nathaniel Okeke introduces and continues at the campus,” Adedoyin said.

Nathaniel Okeke is an author, editor and certified caterer. His books include ‘I Do Not Need a Woman’ (short stories, 2015), ‘My Book of Songs’ (children poetry, 2017) and ‘To the Man I Love’ (novel, 2020). Nathaniel has works published in several literary anthologies and magazines. His awards include the NDU Essay Award (2015), Asian Literary Society's Bronze Award for Children Poetry (2018), the FUOTUOKE Faculty of Arts and Humanities Best Writer of the Year Award (2019). He is presently studying English and Communications Studies at the Federal University Otuoke.

Call for Poems and Essays on RAPE and Violence Against Women – Deadline: 15th October, 2020

 

CALL FOR POEMS AND ESSAYS ON RAPE AND VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN – DEADLINE: 15th OCTOBER, 2020.


The society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has urged Nigerian writers and the general public to join in the fight against RAPE and VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN by contributing Poems and Essays in its forthcoming anthology titled “Get Consent”

In a press statement jointly issued and signed by the National Coordinator and Secretary of the Movement, Miss Angelica .C. Uwaezuoke, SYNW Coordinator (University of Nigeria Nsukka) and Mr. Innocent David' Chinaecherem, SYNW Coordinator (Federal University of Technology Owerri) respectively called on writers to lend their voices against this horrid act so as to drive a change in the perception of women-targeted sexual abuse.

Entries are expected in form of poetry and essays from the budding and established writers within and outside Nigeria. Intending entries should focus exclusively on the theme ‘RAPE and SEXUAL VIOLENCE’ and only works relating to the theme will be accepted for publication.

Writers are free to write on their personal experience or those of others in the form of essays or poems using any title of their choice. There is no monetary prize attached and submission is free and open to writers across the world.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Language Medium – English
  • Genre – Poetry/Articles
  • Theme – Rape and Police Brutality.
  • Poems should be between the minimum of 20 lines and maximum of 40 lines while Essays should be between the minimum of 150 and the maximum of 300.

·         Entrants should send the following information alongside their entries

i. Name  

ii. Age

iii. Gender  

iv. Location  

 v. Phone Number  

vi. Where you heard about the Call for entries  

vii. Short Profile about yourself.

viii. Permission to publish your poem/essay (in one or two paragraphs)

ix. Name of school or university if any

  • A Sentence of not more than 50 words describing the poem.
  • Permission to publish your work among the shortlisted entries.
  • Title of your mail should be addressed as “Raise your pen against Rape”
  • All entries must be submitted to: raiseyourpenagainstrape@gmail.com and also copy societyofyoungnigerianwriters@gmail.com.
  • Deadline for Submission is 15th of October, 2020.
  • Any signs of plagiarism will disqualify the entrant.
  • Organizer’s decision is final

PAWA: Empowering Female African Writers Project

 EMPOWERING FEMALE AFRICAN WRITERS PROJECT


The Pan African Writers Association, Accra, Ghana in collaboration with the Women's Organization of Resources, Knowledge and Skills (WORKS), Lagos, Nigeria will undertake the pilot scheme of the above named project in all its 54 member countries in Africa.

The aim of the project is to empower 2 female Writers in each PAWA member country free of charge for the eventual takeoff of their respective entrepreneurship careers which can supplement their writing careers.

In view of the above, Presidents of National Writers Associations under PAWA have been asked to nominate 2 female Writers from their respective Organizations who are interested in the project not later than September 15 2020.

Selected Female Writers will then be invited for a Zoom meeting to flag off this pilot project which is expected to be expanded in future to accommodate more female Writers.
