YOUNG NIGERIAN WRITERS SET TO PARTNER WITH WOMAN SCREAM INTERNATIONAL POETRY AND ARTS FESTIVAL ON BOOK AND POETRY READINGS
The Society of Young Nigerian Writers has officially partnered with the Woman Scream International Poetry and Arts Festival (Grito de Mujer®).
This was contained in a statement issued by the national President of SYNW, Wole Adedoyin in Ilesha on Wednesday.
The Woman Scream International Poetry and Arts Festival (Grito de Mujer®) from Dominican Republic is a worldwide chain of events celebrated in March, where institutions, poets and artists of different countries volunteer to honor women, sending messages of self-esteem, respect and rising voices against women violence. It includes events for the public such as: Conferences, art exhibits, poetry recitals, concerts, fairs, theater presentations, films, etc.
Woman Scream is celebrated throughout the month of March (from 1st to 31st only). This festival has been celebrated in over 50 countries since 2011, with over 600 successful events coordinated.
In an invitation letter dated January 26, 2021, addressed to the President of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers and signed by Jael Uribe, President MPI and WS hinted that SYNW has been invited to become part of the festival’s volunteers team for next March 2021, and will be coordinating events as part of Woman Scream’s worldwide chain, during the course of the month.
This will be the Second time SYNW will be partnering and participating in this international programme. Year 2016 was the last time the literary body partnered and participated in the project which got some works of its members published on their online Poetry Journal at http://antologiagritodemujer.blogspot.com/2016/04/poems-woman-scream-2016-nigeria.html and in which book and poetry readings took place in eight (8) states of the federation in collaborations with the reading arms of SYNW like the Ibadan Book Club, Osogbo Book Club, Eko Book Club, Abeokuta Book Club and Akure Book Club respectively.
Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), is an umbrella organization that was founded to promote creative writing and literary arts among writers based in Nigeria between the ages of 10 and 40. It was founded in 2010 at the former house of the Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka at the University of Ibadan. It was formerly known as the World of Poets and Literary Society.
Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) is a member of the International Authors Forum (IAF). It has also collaborated with different international organizations like Alliance Francaise (Nigeria), 100 Thousand Poets for Change (USA), Woman Scream International Poetry and Arts Festival (Dominican Republic), Girl Child Creativity (Zimbabwe) and the International Human Rights Art Festival (USA).
In 2019, Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) was duly acknowledged and mentioned in a book titled “TEEN LIVES AROUND THE WORLD: A GLOBAL ENCYCLOPEDIA (2 VOLUMES)” edited by Karen Wells. The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) was described as the only teen writers’ body in Nigeria.
SYNW provides a platform for young writers to meet and collaborate, enhance and hone their writing skills. SYNW also publish, promote and market the works of its members.
