SYNW INAUGURATES ATIBA BOOK CLUB, APPOINTS NEW EXCO
The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) on Saturday, 10th of April 2021 inaugurated Atiba Book Club at the Liberty College Hall, Idi-Ope Area Oyo. Members of the Club also appointed interim executive committee for the club.
This was contained in a press release issued by SYNW President, Wole Adedoyin in Ibadan on Monday.
The launching which was an avenue for book reading, book discussion and networking witnessed the presence of the pupils of Aisa Academy and writers across the nooks and crannies of Oyo town.
According to the founder of the Club, Wole Adedoyin, said the need to promote effective reading habits among the general populace of Oyo Township necessitated into the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) establishing the Club.
The reading activities of Atiba Book Club will cut across the four Oyo Local Government Areas namely; Atiba LGA, headquartered at Offa-Meta; Oyo East LGA, headquartered at Kosobo; Oyo West LGA, headquartered at Ojongbodu and Afijio LGA, headquartered at Jobele.
Also in a bid to guide Atiba Book Club’s strategic direction and coordinate its activities, the Club also appointed a new executive committee led by Odetola Emmanuel Ekundayo following approval from the members of the Club.
The new executive committee members are:
Odetola Emmanuel Ekundayo - Coordinator
Babarinde Ridwanullai Adebayo - Secretary
Oluwadamilare. O. Ojo – Information Secretary
Oyeleye Adewole Oluwatimileyin – Social/Welfare Officer
Sulaiman Abdulhameed Omoboriowo – Education Secretary
Every last Saturdays of every month, Oyo community book lovers, voracious readers, writers, artists will now be converging to discuss old and latest books, read to an interesting audience, meet the guest writer and reader and also get their works published in the newsletter of the club.
Atiba Book Club is an initiative of Society of Young Nigerian Writers. It was established by the Society in order to contribute its own quota towards the growth and development of Reading Culture in Oyo Township. Atiba Book Club consists of group of people who get together, periodically meet to discuss the book they have read, and to exchange such books. The members of the club encourage each other, and learn to read with a critical awareness, articulating their opinions on a particular book with the others. Certain types of books not available or read receive attention through the book club.
