The role of military writing in all its forms has always been able to engage our cultural discourse. This webinar provides an important continuation of that legacy. 

 

This webinar hopes to examine military literature and Writing in Nigeria. It also hopes to cultivate, guide, and train veterans, active military, and family members to tell and publish their stories. The webinar is free and open to members of the public.

COLONEL OLADELE BABAJAMU (RTD)

Colonel Oladele Babajamu can be described as a veteran teacher, soldier, disciplined personality with friendly disposition to all regardless of race or gender. He is a well respected community leader, highly influential statesman, God fearing and a prolific writer.

He attended Government Secondary School, Ilorin, Kabba Teachers College, Kabba and the ObafemiAwolowo University, Ile-Ife where he obtained a Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering in 1988. He has a Master of Science Degree in Strategic Studies from University of Ibadan in 2010.

 

MILITARY CAREER:

 

Oladele Babajamu joined the Nigerian Army on 3 January 1981, as a member of the 29th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy Kaduna. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant on 17 December, 1983 where he was posted to the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery

He attended various relevant courses all within Nigeria including the Command and Staff College, jaji in 2000, and the National Defence College, Abuja in 2008. He served in 341 Field Artillery, Monrovia in 1990 as the SAM-7 AirDefence Troop Commander during the ECOMOG operations in Liberia.

Colonel Babajamu served in the Nigerian Army meritoriously for over thirty years until is voluntary retirement in May 2011.  On retirement, he settled in Ilorin where he became member of different associations; He served as Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors Kwara State Chapter for two terms 2012 – 2016. He rose to become the Association Public Relations Officer (North) 2017 at the National level.

He is the current Chairman of the Retired Army, Navy and Air Force Officers Association of Nigeria (RANAO), Kwara State Chapter: An umbrella association for retired officers of the Armed Forces at home and in the Diaspora.

 

MARITAL STATUS /HOBBIES

 

He is happily married to AdenikeBabajamu (Nee Adeniyi) on 12 December 1992. They are blesse with wonderful children and colourful testimonies.

OladeleBabajamu was ordained as a Deacon in Living faith Church Winners Chapel Zaria on 29 May, 1999after attending the Word of Faith Bible Institute (WOFBI), Kano Campus, where he obtained the Basic Certificate Course (BCC). After retirement in 2012, he attended the WOFBI Ilorin campus for the Leadership Certificate Course (LCC) and in 2017 he did the Leadership Diploma Course (LDC) where he graduated as the best student.

Colonel Babajamu has visited many countries during the course of his military career. He was in Sierra-Leone before the movement of ECOMOG Troops to Liberia in 1990 where he served for nine months. He visited Togo in 2000 and was in Australia and Singapore in 2008. He visited the United State of America in 2015 and the Emirate City of Dubai in 2019.

 

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LITERARY WORLD

 

Colonel Babajamu has over 100 publications in military home-Based, national and International outlets (Journal articles, books, book chapters and creative works). Amongst his publications are, Melody of Love (2021),From Grass to Greatness(2020),  OrangunIye-Oro (2019). The contents of many of these publications have greatly educates the common men and women in the streets of Nigeria and other countries of the world to know more about the virtues of the military. An average reader could easily deduce that the military is the best discipline arms of human organization anywhere in the world.

 

MERIT AWARDS FOR LITERARY CONTRIBUTIONS

 

He was a recipient of the Nigerian Army Chief of Staff ( COAS)Commendation Award for consistent literary contributions to the Nigerian Army in 2005. Amongst his other awards is the 2005 Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Abuja Chapter’s Merit Award for Sustainable Contributions to the Development of Nigerian Literatures. After retirement he has continued to contribute to the development of human capacity via his various publications to the Nigerian populace.
