Adwinsa Publications Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of Adwinsa Publications Ghana Limited has congratulated its General Manager, Mr. Kwaku Oppong Amponsah, on the occasion of his 49th birthday.

Mr. Amponsah, a passionate advocate for literacy, has made significant contributions to the promotion of reading culture in both Ghana and Nigeria. He is the brain behind the successful Ghana Reads Initiative and co-founded the Read Nigeria Project with the Ibadan Book Club.

Adwinsa Publications Nigeria Limited, registered in Ilorin, Nigeria in 2006, will soon begin operations. Mr. Amponsah's vision is to publish new voices and further expand the company's reach.

His dedication to fostering a love for books is evident in his tireless efforts through the Ghana Reads Initiative. This program has significantly impacted Ghana's literary landscape, inspiring a new generation of readers and writers.

In 2022, Mr. Amponsah launched the Nigerian branch of Adwinsa Publications and co-founded the Read Nigeria Project. This nationwide initiative celebrates individuals who contribute to Nigeria's learning and reading cultures. The project has hosted over twenty young writers in several Nigerian states and organized numerous successful book readings and literary events, fostering a vibrant literary community.

Mr. Amponsah's dedication extends beyond publishing. He is also the Founder and Director of the Family Business Network in Ghana. He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and Management and actively serves as an Evangelist with the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

Adwinsa Publications Nigeria Limited wished Mr. Amponsah a very happy birthday and continued success in his ongoing endeavors to promote literacy and empower readers and writers across both nations.

Young Writers Hail Dr. Mark Ogbodo on His Birthday

 



YOUNG WRITERS HAIL DR. MARK OGBODO ON HIS BIRTHDAY


The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has hailed Dr. Mark A.C. Ogbodo on his birthday with heartfelt congratulations and admiration.


In a press statement released by the SYNW President, Wole Adedoyin, SYNW lauded Dr. Ogbodo's multifaceted achievements, highlighting his contributions to both the literary and medical landscapes. "Dr. Ogbodo serves as an inspiration to young writers, demonstrating how dedication, passion, and excellence can translate into success across diverse fields," Adedoyin declared.


Dr. Ogbodo's literary prowess shines through his acclaimed book, "Amour Maternel: 2021," certified by the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council as a JSS II supplementary reader in Benue State. His essay, "The Broken Black Spell," published in "There Was a Man," a Chinua Achebe anthology, further exemplifies his insightful voice. Additionally, his novel, "The Journey; A Flight to Greatness After a Long Walk," published in 2017, captivates readers with its narrative power.


Beyond the realm of literature, Dr. Ogbodo's leadership shines in his medical and educational roles. He serves as Public Relations Officer for the Nigerian Medical Association's Benue State branch, Assistant Secretary of the Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (Benue State) and the Association of Nigerian Authors (Benue State), and held the presidency of the Unique Secondary School Old Students Association from 2006 to 2017.


Dr. Ogbodo's dedication to both medicine and literature embodies the spirit of service and creativity that SYNW champions. His literary works resonate with young readers, while his medical expertise serves his community with compassion and skill.

IWA Celebrates Renowned Author Lola Shoneyin on Her 50th Birthday

IWA CELEBRATES RENOWNED AUTHOR LOLA SHONEYIN ON HER 50TH BIRTHDAY



The International Writers Association (IWA) today extended its warmest congratulations to the founder of the Ake Book and Arts Festival, Lola Shoneyin, on the momentous occasion of her 50th birthday.


In a heartfelt statement issued by IWA Acting President Wole Adedoyin, Shoneyin was lauded for her exceptional contributions to the literary landscape, both nationally and internationally. Adedoyin commended her not only for her captivating prose and poetry but also for her unwavering dedication to fostering a vibrant literary community in Africa.

Her prolificacy extends to three poetry collections, each showcasing her adventurous spirit and outspoken voice, often categorized within the feminist lens.


In 2014, Shoneyin's talent was further recognized by her inclusion on the Hay Festival's Africa39 list, honoring the most promising writers under 40 shaping the future of African literature. This prestigious recognition solidified her position as a leading voice in contemporary African literature.


Beyond her own creative pursuits, Shoneyin has played a pivotal role in nurturing the literary scene in Nigeria. In 2013, she established the Ake Book and Arts Festival, a renowned annual event that brings together writers, artists, and book lovers from across the globe. This transformative initiative has become a cornerstone for literary exchange and dialogue in Africa, fostering connections and celebrating the diversity of African voices.

She holds a diploma in Scriptwriting, Producing, and Directing from ITPAN School, Lagos, along with various certifications in computer-related fields.


During her tenure in Osogbo, Osun State, serving in the office of the governor during her NYSC days, Fatima demonstrated her commitment to public service. The literary landscape of Oyo State is set to flourish as the Ibadan Book Club, in collaboration with the Writers League of Oyo State  announced the participation of three distinguished Ibadan-based female writers in the upcoming February edition of Oyo Reads Project. Akinwande Funmilayo Theresa, Ndukwo Mary Chidinma, and Ajala Titilayo Deborah will grace the event with their literary prowess and insightful perspectives.

According to a statement issued by the founder of the Ibadan Book Club, Wole Adedoyin, the event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the prestigious Oyo State Library Board, situated Opposite Cocoa House, Dugbe Ibadan, commencing at 12:00 PM. The event promises to be an enriching experience for literature enthusiasts and aspiring writers alike.

Oyo Reads is a groundbreaking project aimed at democratizing access to literature by bringing readings to the nooks and crannies of Oyo State. AKINWANDE FUNMILAYO THERESA is a multifaceted individual with a diverse array of talents and responsibilities. She serves as the author and editor of the esteemed Christian publication, Anointing Encounter Magazine. In addition to her literary pursuits, Funmilayo Theresa is actively involved in various community organizations, holding positions such as the financial Secretary of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) in Oyo State, and Assistant Coordinator of CLMOI in lbnw North West local government.

Her dedication to serving others extends beyond the realm of literature, as she fulfills roles such as Secretary to Watchmen Life Prevailing Mission and Deaconess at C.A.C. Oke-lbukun Ekerin Ologuneru, Ibadan. She also serves as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Minister to Ministers Network International, Oyo State chapter.

In addition to her community involvement, Funmilayo Theresa is a talented fashion designer, caterer, and song composer. She shares her artistic talents not only through her writing but also as an accomplished artist and teacher at ED Harrison Mission in Nigeria. With 22 books to his name, he continues to captivate audiences with his unique storytelling and musical prowess.


Nwelue's literary achievements speak volumes, with notable works such as "The Beginning of Everything Colourful" and "The Lagos Cuban Jazz Club" earning him recognition from esteemed organizations like the Association of Nigerian Authors. His foray into filmmaking has also garnered acclaim, with his documentary "House of Nwapa" and Igbo film "Agwaetiti Obiụtọ" receiving accolades at the Africa Movie Academy Awards.


Amarachi Attamah, on the other hand, stands as a beacon for the preservation and promotion of the Igbo language. As an award-winning Chant Performance Artist and Performance Poet, she uses her artistry to amplify the beauty and richness of her cultural heritage. Her dedication to the sustainability of the Igbo language has earned her accolades and honorary mentions from various platforms and organizations.
