SYNW calls for more writers residencies in Nigeria

 

SYNW CALLS FOR MORE WRITERS RESIDENCIES IN NIGERIA

 

The Society of Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has called for an increase in the number of writers' residencies in Nigeria. The organization recognizes the need for more opportunities for writers to have dedicated time and space to focus on their craft.

SYNW commends the efforts of the Ebedi Writers Residency and Imodoye Writers Residency for providing a peaceful and conducive environment for writers to work and develop their skills. These residencies offer writers the chance to retreat from their usual distractions and concentrate on their writing projects, leading to a more productive and creative outcome.

In a recent statement, the President of SYNW, Mr. Wole Adedoyin, said, “We believe that writers' residencies play a critical role in the development of the literary arts in Nigeria. These residencies give writers the opportunity to connect with other writers, gain new perspectives, and grow as artists.”

The Ebedi Writers Residency, located in Iseyin, Oyo State, provides a serene and conducive environment for writers to write, reflect and rejuvenate. With a focus on African writers, the residency offers a platform for writers to engage with the literary arts, cultural heritage, and environmental sustainability.

Imodoye Writers Residency, on the other hand, is located in Ilorin, Kwara State and provides a peaceful environment for writers to work and develop their writing skills. The residency also offers a platform for writers to interact with other writers and to develop new ideas and perspectives.

SYNW is encouraging the establishment of more writers' residencies in Nigeria to provide writers with the necessary resources and opportunities to create and develop their works. The organization is also encouraging individuals, organizations, and the government to support and invest in the literary arts to further strengthen the development of the creative industries in Nigeria.

SYNW is dedicated to promoting the development of the literary arts in Nigeria and providing writers with the resources and opportunities to hone their craft.
