IBADAN LITERARY SOCIETY'S VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM IN HONOUR OF PROF. FEMI OSOFISAN STARTS TOMORROW

The Ibadan Literary Society (ILS) has proudly announced the commencement of a two-day International Virtual Symposium on the renowned Nigerian author and former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Prof. Femi Osofisan. The symposium will take place on June 15 and 16, 2023, and aims to explore the theme of "Femi Osofisan, Decoloniality and the Repositioning of Western Modernity."
The first day of the symposium, June 15, will consist of a series of thought-provoking lectures. The opening lecture, titled "Return of the Left, Eni Lo, Lo Bo: Rending Afriphonic English in Yoruba," will be delivered by Professor Adeleke Adeeko, a Humanities Distinguished Professor from the Department of English at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, USA. The lecture will commence at 4:00 PM (1600) West Africa Time (WAT).
Following Professor Adeeko's lecture, ILS will have a second lecture entitled "Querying Western Modernity: Decoloniality, Text, and Woman-Centred Contexts in Femi Osofisan's Plays," presented by Professor Mabel Evwierhoma, a distinguished Professor of Theatre Arts from the University of Abuja, Nigeria.
On the second day of the symposium, June 16, participants will have the opportunity to engage with the works of Femi Osofisan through the screening of two plays: "A Nightingale for Dr. Dubois" and "Nkrumah-Ni! Africa Ni!" These captivating theatrical performances will shed light on Osofisan's profound contributions to African literature and his exploration of decolonial themes.
