SYNW Applauds Abubakar Adam Ibrahim's Inclusion on the Longlist for the 2024 Dublin Literary Award

 

SYNW APPLAUDS ABUBAKAR ADAM IBRAHIM'S INCLUSION ON THE LONGLIST FOR THE 2024 DUBLIN LITERARY AWARD


 

Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) has congratulated Abubakar Adam Ibrahim for achieving the remarkable feat of being longlisted for the prestigious 2024 Dublin Literary Award.

Wole Adedoyin, the President of SYNW, expressed the organization's immense delight in an official statement released on Thursday from the SYNW headquarters in Ibadan. This acknowledgment comes as a recognition of Abubakar Adam Ibrahim's outstanding literary contribution and the undeniable impact of his work, "When We Were Fireflies."

"When We Were Fireflies," penned by Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, has rightfully secured its place on the longlist for this year's Dublin Literary Award, further solidifying the author's position as a literary force to be reckoned with on the global stage.

Established in 1996 as the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, the Dublin Literary Award is presented annually for a novel written or translated into English. Sponsored exclusively by Dublin City Council, Ireland, the award, with its substantial prize of €100,000, stands as one of the most lucrative recognitions in the literary world, emphasizing excellence in world literature.

Abubakar Adam Ibrahim, a distinguished Nigerian writer and journalist, has a rich literary history. His debut short-story collection, "The Whispering Trees," was longlisted for the inaugural Etisalat Prize for Literature in 2014, with the title story shortlisted for the Caine Prize for African Writing. In 2020, the collection was re-published by Cassava Republic Press for international distribution, and a French translation was released in 2022.

SYNW takes pride in celebrating Abubakar Adam Ibrahim's accomplishments, recognizing his dedication to the craft of storytelling and his significant impact on the literary landscape.
