Ibadan Reads to Host Sulaiman Olaide Salawudeen at the March Edition

 

IBADAN READS TO HOST SULAIMAN OLAIDE SALAWUDEEN AT THE MARCH EDITION


 

Ibadan Book Club, in collaboration with the Conference of Southwest Writers, is excited to announce the upcoming edition of Ibadan Reads, featuring Mr. Sulaiman Olaide Salawudeen as the guest speaker. This event is scheduled to hold on the 25th of March, 2023, at the Oyo State Library Board, opposite Cocoa House, Ibadan, by 12 noon prompt.

The Ibadan Reads initiative is a monthly gathering that aims to promote literacy and encourage a reading culture among residents of Ibadan. The event offers a platform for book enthusiasts, writers, and literary enthusiasts to interact and exchange ideas on literature, books, and the creative industry.

The March edition of Ibadan Reads promises to be informative, educative and enlightening. Mr. Sulaiman Olaide Salawudeen, a professional Editor and renowned journalist, will be the guest speaker at the event. Mr. Salawudeen has had a successful career in journalism and civil service, having worked for various reputable media houses in the country. He is also a prolific writer and editor, with several published works to his credit.

At the event, Mr. Salawudeen will be sharing his experience as a journalist, civil servant, editor and writer. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with him, ask questions, and learn from his wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of journalism and literature.

ABOUT SULAIMAN OLAIDE SALAWUDEEN

Sulaiman Olaide Salawudeen, a current assistant lecturer at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and a freelance writer/public commentator, transitioned into full-time journalism from a ten-year stint in the civil service. He joined The Nation newspapers, where he quickly became known as a dependable and creative news and feature writer, despite his degrees in Demography and Social Statistics (BSc) and Sociology (MSc).

During his time as a state correspondent for Ekiti, Salawudeen's unique identity in daily publications led to increased sales and acceptance of the publication, and earned him commendations from the establishment's leadership. Salawudeen's civil service background instilled in him respect for rules, obedience to leadership, and an ability to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and submit quality copies, which became his strengths in journalism.

Salawudeen's editing and proofreading skills, as well as his ability to match expression and intention, have won him the trust and confidence of colleagues and stakeholders across society. His civil service experience involved groundbreaking submissions that remedied the lives of career officers in various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), reflecting his stand on probity, accountability, and promptness in delivering assigned duties.

Today, despite being a full-time Sociology lecturer, Salawudeen's concerns for the public have kept him close to journalism, where he provides mordant comments on issues of national and international interest. His essays reflect his humanist, idealist, and activist worldview, with distinct aspects of his personality and empathy for the generality radiating through his messages with admirable candour.

Salawudeen's versatility in worded engagements has attracted plaudits from professional colleagues and notable political figures, making him the recipient of ordinarily classified information. His vision is to be part of a select alliance to forge a new phase of socio-political and economic relationships that will truly accommodate all, and his mission is to assert relevance in specific areas of legitimate human endeavour in harmony with timeless virtues of equity, efficiency, and transparency.
