Why SYNW Designed Correspondence Courses for Young Nigerian Writers

WHY SYNW DESIGNED CORRESPONDENCE COURSES FOR YOUNG NIGERIAN WRITERS

The Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW) initiated a creative writing correspondence course to enhance the writing skills of young Nigerian writers. The course is aimed at providing a platform for mentoring, educating, and enhancing the literary proficiency of young writers in the country.

In May 2012, SYNW sent out a notice inviting young Nigerian writers from different backgrounds to send in their entries for the proposed free creative writing correspondence course. After a thorough screening process, 15 entries were selected for the course.

The correspondence course, available in both softcopy and hardcopy formats, features the works of upcoming and aspiring young Nigerian writers. It is designed to help participants improve their writing skills, learn new techniques and styles, and gain a better understanding of the publishing industry.

In addition to the creative writing course, SYNW has also designed other correspondence courses for young Nigerian readers. One of such courses is the Fagunwa Correspondence Course, which aims to promote the works of D.O Fagunwa among a new generation of readers.

The Fagunwa Correspondence Course, which will be conducted entirely through the Fagunwa Society's blog, is open to students of all ages and backgrounds. Participants will have access to a wealth of resources, including detailed biographies of Fagunwa, critical essays, and analysis of his most famous works.

Another correspondence course offered by SYNW is the T.M Aluko Reading Correspondence Course, which is designed to improve participants' reading skills and comprehension through remote instruction. The course involves the use of textbooks, workbooks, and other materials sent by mail or email to participants. Students are expected to complete assignments and assessments and submit them to the instructor for feedback and grading.

The T.M Aluko Reading Correspondence Course is an excellent option for individuals who want to enhance their reading abilities at their own pace, from the comfort of their homes, and under the guidance of an experienced instructor.

SYNW's correspondence courses are not only a way to hone and enhance the literary skills of young Nigerians, but they also provide an opportunity for personal growth, networking, and exposure to new ideas and perspectives.

Speaking on the initiative, the SYNW President, Wole Adedoyin, said: "The correspondence courses are part of our commitment to promoting and developing the literary skills of young Nigerians. We believe that through these courses, we can help to create a generation of writers and readers who are not only competent but also passionate about the literary arts."

He further stated that the courses were not limited to young Nigerian writers and readers alone, but also to anyone interested in improving their writing or reading skills.

The SYNW correspondence courses are a testament to the Society's commitment to promoting the literary arts in Nigeria and beyond. They offer a unique opportunity for young writers and readers to develop their skills and connect with like-minded individuals in a supportive and nurturing environment.
